I have had a number of teachers in my life, but one sticks out more than most and that was my first grade teacher at Beadle, "Mrs. Allan." She certainly made an impact on me way back when, but that impact, care, concern and love from her continued as I grew older and wiser too. I can see her smile right now, and yes, I feel her warmth right now too. She was so positive and had such a sense of grace.
I am disappointed in that I won't be attending today's celebration of this remarkable person. I apologize to the family and friends of Mrs. Allan for not being there, but please know I will be thinking of her and all of you today. I read her obit today and am even more overwhelmed by her impact and her accomplishments in her life. She definitely made the most of the days God gave her and I will do my best to follow her example.
Mrs. Allan, thanks for making an impact on my life and thanks for all that you have done to make such a profound difference for so many. We have been blessed.
To the Allan family, I wish you the very best. Thanks for sharing your Mom, your Grandma and friend with me.
Mike Huether, Sioux Falls, South Dakota and one of Mrs. Allan's Beadle Bugs

I love(d) your mom! She was my 1st grade teacher and many can attest to the fact that I have stated many, many times....she was my favorite!!! Lived near your family when you lived on the corner of Capitol and 15th and remember fondly placing a May basket on your front step and ringing the bell and running but she ran and caught me a couple of houses away! Will miss her hugs that I received each time I saw her (and I saw her around alot), Will have even more special memories as I walk past her old Beadle classroom each week as I delivery pop to the lounge. Loved her so much...

My sincere sympathies to all the family. Your mother was one of my most favorite teachers. She was kind and soft spoken woman. I also had the pleasure of going to your home and playing with Sue when we were young and enjoyed her hospitality. May she rest in peace and her memory stay alive with all of us.

I am so sorry for your loss. Mrs. Allan was my favorite first grade teacher at Beadle School. I thought she was wonderful. Looking back now, I believe she influenced me to become an elementary teacher as I am now teaching at Beadle School working with first and second graders. She will be greatly missed but fondly remembered!

What an extraordinary lady. My greatest memories include Don as well. My world is better by being touched by the two. I have many a pair of baseball pants mended by Grandma A. Thank you for the great conversation, lip stick on the cheek kisses and extraordinary conversation. Thank you for the dinners and hot chocolate endeavors. We hold those closest who shaped us the most. She was not my grandmother, but I tried not to disappoint. She had that type of effect. I miss you both. Enjoy your time together again.

Dear Allan Family,
I'm so terribly sorry for your loss, I can only imagine the void that will be in your hearts and your lives without this wonderful woman. I, like so many, consider Mrs. Allan to be our favorite teacher ever. I sat next to her on a flight out of Sioux Falls once and she recognized me, even though I'd graduated 25 years before. It was the best flight of my life- catching up and hearing about her life was time I value more than I can tell you. I hope you know the difference Mrs. Allan made in so many lives. My thoughts are with you...
Michelle (or as Mrs. Allan called me, Mishelly)

For Dores' family:
It was my pleasure to know Dores, primarily through our PEO chapter. She was always interested in the lives of others and interesting to talk to. I can't remember seeing her without a smile or welcoming look on her face. Her love of life was a living example for those around her. She will be missed.

To the Allan Family,
I have such wonderful memories of watching Travis' baseball games and traveling to and from the games with Dores and Don. Grandma Allan was my "second" grandma and I loved her to pieces. She is the most amazing woman I have ever met. God blessed us all for allowing her to be a special part of our lives. She will be greatly missed!
Love to all,
Margo Buchholz-Logue

I was saddened to hear of your mother's death. She will be greatly missed. We served together on the MMC board for a number of years and got to be friends. I marveled at her spirit of generosity, her wisdom and her concern for the good of education in all its forms, especially at the college. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Peggy, Scott, Susan and families......saddened to learn of your Mother's passing, but like you happy for her being united with past loved ones. I remember fondly the friendship your parents had with my parents....the vacations to the Hills, dinners, and just spent together. If there are garage sales in heaven, I can imagine my Mom and yours organizing one. Life well lived indeed.
God Bless, Steve and Linda Gorseth

We are so very sorry for your loss. Dores was a delight to know and I so enjoyed the history and knowledge she had of this community and her love for it. Her love was contagious. She brought out the best in people, I believe that must go back to the type of teacher she was. She was an honorary member of GFWC Yankton (over 56 years) and I will cherish my memories of the years I was able to get to know her. Know that we are keeping all of you in our prayers. I will miss this beautiful lady.
