Mary Ann Loecker, age 93 of Yankton, SD passed away early Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, SD with Rev. Larry Regynski officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton, SD. Visitations will begin at 5:00 PM, Friday, September 18, 2015 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, SD with a rosary at 7:00 PM followed by a Scripture service at 7:30 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mary Ann was born November 24, 1921, in Petersburg, Nebraska, to William and Justina Goeken. She moved to Crofton, Nebraska, with her family and graduated from high school there in 1940.
Mary Ann married Victor Loecker on August 26, 1941 at Sacred Heart Church in Yankton. She worked for many years at M-Tron before going to work at Sacred Heart Hospital where she continued to work until her retirement. She also worked for several years at the Black Steer. After her retirement she volunteered for many years at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Mary Ann was a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Catholic Foresters.
Mary Ann will be remembered by her family for her love of baseball. She was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves, and for many years never missed a game that was televised. She was also an avid country music fan.
Mary Ann enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, and especially enjoyed teaching most of those grandchildren and even some of her great-grandchildren how to play Kings' Corner. As recent as this summer yet she could be found in the evenings and on weekends in a competitive game of Kings' Corner with fellow residents at Majestic Bluffs. She also loved to play pinochle and bingo.
Mary Ann is survived by nine children: Reynold Loecker of Yankton; Roger (Claudia) Loecker of Huron; Romain "Red" (Diane) Loecker of Yankton; Phyllis Burkhart of Yankton; Rodney (Jan) Loecker of Yankton; Doris (Martin) McIntosh of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Vickie (Steve) Heick of Mitchell, South Dakota; JoAnn Selves of Kansas City, Missouri; and Kimberly (LeRoy) Becker of Tea, South Dakota. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren
