Ronald F. Fitch, age 68 of Yankton passed away early Saturday morning, January 9, 2016 at the Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, SD. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, January 15, 2015 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton with Pastor Kwen Sanderson officiating. Military rites by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post #791 Honor Guard, Yankton and the US Navy Honor Guard. Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Ronald was born on February 9, 1947 to Wesley and Marjorie (Brown) Fitch in St. Paul, Minnesota. His family moved to North Branch, MN in 1955, where he attended grade school and high school. In 1964, he joined the US Navy and served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1968. On returning home from the Navy, Ron worked at various jobs with mechanics always being his passion. He married Jean Moore on September 30, 1972 at Kost, MN and their marriage was blessed with three children.
Ron enjoyed reading, working on cars and small engines, watching westerns, going to the farm, helping with his son's hockey games. He had a love for fishing with the highlight of his fishing career being catching an 81 lb. sturgeon.
Those who will cherish his memory are his wife, Jean Fitch of Yankton, SD; his daughter, Carrie (Shane) Anderson of Yankton; two sons, Jeffrey Fitch of Isanti, MN and Christopher (Erika) Fitch of Rush City, MN; 5 grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters, Patricia Bernin of Braham, MN and Katherine Crider of North Branch, MN, father-in-law, Robert Moore of Yankton, several brothers and sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews and friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, nephew, Grant Crider, mother-in-law, Lorraine Moore, and brother-in-law, James Doering.
