Dorothy Ann Darcy, age 81, of Yankton, passed away Monday, March 4, 2013 at the Avera Yankton Care Center, Yankton, SD. Private family memorial services will be held with Rev. Mark Lichter officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton, SD at a later date. The Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, is assisting with service details.
Dorothy Ann was born September 4, 1931, in Yankton, SD to Lawrence & Marie (Mines) Ryan and was the youngest of six children. She attended school at Sacred Heart School, Grove School and Mount Marty College. Dorothy married John E. Darcy on April 30, 1955 at Sacred Heart Church, Yankton , SD. To this union, four children were born: Mary, Kathy, John and a stillborn son. She was employed at Dales, MTron, Stockmen's Livestock and South Dakota Human Services Center, until retiring. They bought and remodeled houses and sold fireworks for numerous years in Yankton. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, gardening, garage sales and spending time with family. She would do whatever she could to lend a hand to anyone in need, family or not.
She is survived by her son John (Cathi) Darcy of Yankton, SD; daughters, Kathy (Darcy) Brewer and Mary Darcy, both of Yankton, SD; grandchildren: Crystal Jensen, Michael Brewer, Michael Darcy, Patrick Brewer, Patricia Darcy and Robert Darcy; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, infant son, brothers: George, James and Patrick Ryan, sisters, Mary Lanning and Margaret O'Connor.
