F. Ellen Frick, age 95 of Yankton, SD passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Avera Yankton Care Center, Yankton. A Memorial Mass will be 10:30 AM, Monday, March 11, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton with Rev. John Rutten officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitations will begin at 5 PM, Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton with a 7 PM rosary followed by a 7:30 PM Scripture service. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ellen was born January 24, 1918 in Yankton, SD to Edward and Catherine (Slowey) McManus. She went to Walshtown and Knodel Grade Schools and attended Yankton High School. After she was out of school, Ellen worked as a housekeeper and cook for the Wolfs, Means and Lusks' families. She also worked for Gurney Seed and Nurseries for 15 years. She married Albert Frick on November 7, 1939. They farmed northeast of Yankton on the Frick family farm. They retired and moved into Yankton in 1994. Ellen loved to cook, bake and spend time with family and friends through the years.
She is survived by two children, Michael (JoAnn) Frick of Yankton, SD, Jeanne (Roger) Hochstein of Yankton, SD; four grandchildren: Rodney Frick, Michelle (Jon) Baumann, both of Yankton, SD, Shad (Penny) Hochstein and Todd Hochstein, both of Sioux Falls, SD; four great-grandchildren: Annie and Ellie Baumann of Yankton, SD, and Levi and Calvin Hochstein of Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters, Colleen Slagle and Elaine Hohenther of Yankton, SD; sister-in-law, Charlotte McManus of Irene, SD; brother-in-law, Wilbur Harris of Michigan; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Albert, sisters, Mary Catherine Thiel, and Carol Harris, brothers, Edward McManus and James McManus, granddaughter, Rochelle Hochstein, grandson, Dustin Hochstein, two sisters-in-law, Minnie Trachy and Helen Whisler, and brother-in-law, John Frick
