Joan I. Oswald, age 82, of Yankton, SD passed away Friday morning, March 15, 2013 at her residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, SD with Rev. John Rutten officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton, SD. Visitations will be begin at 5:00 PM, Wednesday, at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, with a rosary at 7:00 PM followed by a Scripture service at 7:30 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers are David Oswald, Drew Oswald, Barry Glanzer, Quinn Van Treeck, Travis Van Treeck and Charley Van Treeck.
Joan was born February 16, 1931 in Sioux City, IA to Ralph & Eunice (Anderson) Becker. She married Donald J. Oswald on February 18, 1949 in Sioux Falls, SD. Joan worked in the Yankton County Treasurer's office for a major portion of her working career. She was promoted to the position of Deputy Treasurer, before being elected as Yankton County Treasurer. Joan served in that position for many years. She and her husband Don purchased a grocery store on Main Street in Yankton, SD. Don and Joan ran Don's Super Saver until their retirement.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Donald of Yankton, SD; sons, Dennis Oswald of Yankton, SD and Donald (Jennifer) Oswald, Jr. of Omaha, NE. daughters, Cheryl (John) Van Treeck of Denver, CO and Deborah Johnson of Newport Beach, CA; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Gene Becker, Dick Becker, Jack Becker, and sister, Ruth Becker.
