Daniel R. Devine, age 57 of Yankton passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Monday, June 24, 2013 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Yankton with Rev. Dan Moris officiating and Rev. Leonard Kayser and Rev. Ken Lulf con-celebrating. Burial will be in the Mission Hill Cemetery immediately following the Mass.
Visitations will be from 4-7 PM, Sunday, June 23, 2013 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton with a 7 PM Prayer service and video tribute. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers are Gerald Eilers, Chad Eilers, Daniel Hacecky, Wayne Smith, Merlyn Schmuck, Robert Smith, Dale Hoxeng, and Dean Morman.
Daniel was born November 2, 1955 in Yankton, SD to James and Maxine (Sylliaasen) Devine. He grew up on the family farm north of Yankton and lived there until his death. He graduated from Yankton High School in 1974 and began a lifelong love of farming. On March 28, 1981, he married Jeanne Feilmeier. Together they raised their two sons Jesse and Travis. He was a passionate fan of all of their activities, and he especially loved baseball. In 1981, he began a career in insurance with his father and later joined Midwest Insurance Agency, which would eventually include his wife and son, Travis. He was a member of St. Agnes Sigel Catholic Church and Choir of Utica, Knights of Columbus, former board member of the Yankton Baseball Association, Mission Hill Cemetery, Yankton Chamber of Commerce, and South Central League Amateur Baseball. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren, newborn calves, and visiting with anyone and everyone. He had a special charm and wit around his family and close friends, especially Deb.
Dan is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jeanne; his sons, Jesse (Jessica) of Clark, SD, and Travis (Whitney) of Yankton, his grandchildren Brooke, Hayden, and Jett; his sister, Jane (Jack) Slowey of Yankton, SD; his brothers, Tom of Rapid City, SD, and Laddie (Brenda McKimmey) of Ankeny, IA; sister-in-law, Sally (Gary) Gramm of Brookings, SD; father-in-law and mother-in-law Denis and Dolores Feilmeier of Yankton, SD; step mother, Mildred Devine of Yankton, SD; sister-in-law, Denise (Robert) Wubben; brothers-in-law, Alan (Connie) Feilmeier, Daryl (Beth) Feilmeier, and Michael (Wendy) Feilmeier, all of Yankton, SD; step brothers, Tom (Roxanne) Huber of Rapid City, SD and Dennis (Karen) Huber of Mission Hill, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Maxine, his brother, Rodney, an infant sister, nephew, Nicholas Feilmeier, and step brother Dale Huber.
