Joseph F. Vyborny, age 81 of Utica passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Yankton with Msgr. Carlton Hermann celebrating and Rev. Ken Lulf concelebrating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery with military rites by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post #791 Honor Guard, Yankton and the SDARNG Honor Guard, Sioux Falls. Visitations will be from 5-7 PM, Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton with a 7 PM rosary followed by a video tribute and a 7:30 PM Scripture service. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers are: Danny Grosz, David Grosz, Kenny Kaiser, Terry Manas, Ron Pesek and Jim Sedlacek. Honorary pallbearers are: Bob & Janice Dejong, Harold & Clarine Fejar, Dennis & Kris Hacecky, Joe & Dorothy Hejl, Eugene & Maryann Jambor, Bob & Darleen Kolda, Jim & Janet Stark, Jim & Margie Swain, and John & Jean Vavra.
Joseph was born April 10, 1932 in Tabor, SD to Joseph and Emma (Sedlacek) Vyborny. They moved to Utica, SD when he was very young. He attended Wilson Country School and Tabor High School. He farmed with his father until 1953 when he went into the service. He was given an Honorable Discharge in 1955. He married Janet Hausman in Yankton, SD on November 22, 1955. They moved to Utica, SD where they were blessed with five children and later moved to the home farm after his father retired. Joe was a farmer up until he handed the reins to his son, Joseph C. He was active working on lawn mowers and helping out on the farm when needed.
He always enjoyed his family, friends, traveling to Illinois to see his Army buddy, family vacations, which included many camping trips, and watching Polka shows on T.V.
He is survived by his wife, Janet of Utica, SD; sons, Joseph C. (Cindy) Vyborny of Lesterville, SD and Michael J. Vyborny (Ronnell Jonas) of Utica, SD; daughters, Sharon (Steven) Kotalik of Utica, SD, and Jennifer A. Vyborny (Greg Goeden) of Colton, SD; sister, Jean K. Vyborny of Omaha, NE; five grandchildren: Steven J. Kotalik, Stacy M. Kotalik, Eric D. Vyborny, Katrina A. Vyborny, and Sophia E. Vyborny; two great-grandchildren, Reece W. Kotalik and Peyton J. Kotalik.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph E. & Emma A. Vyborny, daughter, Mary B. Vyborny, granddaughter, Marissa M. Vyborny, and many aunts and uncles.
