Velma L. Weverstad, age 100 of Yankton passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton. Memorial Services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton with Rev. Dave Wildermuth and Rev. Kwen Sanderson officiating. Visitations will be from 5-7 PM, Friday, November 13, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, with a 7 PM Prayer Service and video tribute. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton is in care of the arrangements.
Velma was born August 27, 1915 to Leslie and Gladys (Porter) Jones in Hartington, NE. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wynot, NE. She married Floren W. Weverstad on February 10, 1966 in Yankton, SD. Velma was employed at American National Bank, Rapid City, SD, U.S. National Bank, Salem, OR and American State Bank, Yankton, SD. She was a life member of Eastern Star #33, Yankton, SD, Yankton Senior Citizen Center, Women of Moose Lodge, Avera Sacred Heart Hospital Auxiliary, Yankton China Painters, a charter member of Crofton Lake View Country Club, R.S.V.P. Program and Prayer Group.
Velma is survived by her step-children, Bob (Marilyn) Weverstad and Dick Weverstad, both of Yankton, SD; five grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; sister, Marceda Jones and many nieces and nephews.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents; husband, Floren; brothers, Ralph Jones and Donald Jones and sister, Iona (Jones) Gatzmeyer.
