Obituary of Doreen J. Pechan

Doreen J. Pechan, age 86, of Yankton, passed away early Sunday, December 29, 2013 at the Avera Yankton Care Center, Yankton, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton, with Rev. David Wildermuth officiating. Burial will be in the Yankton Cemetery. Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, is assisting with service details. Doreen's pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Doreen was born in Mitchell, SD on June 14, 1927 to David and Genevieve (Murphy) Nymark. She lived in Mitchell until her Grandmother died at which time she moved to Yankton, SD. Due to her folks living at the State Hospital, they were not allowed to have children living with them so she lived with Harry and Agnes Sparby. During her years in high school, she worked at the state hospital in the dining area as hostess. During the summer months, she would work in the office doing inventory work at HSC. She graduated from Yankton High School and then met and married Lawrence Pechan on June 15, 1946. She continued to work at HSC until the first of her three children were born. In 1971, she began working at Gurney's Seed and Nursery where she worked for the next 38 years before retiring. After her official retirement, she continued at Gurney's working in customer service and as night watchman. Doreen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton, where she was a member of several circles and served as past Sunday School Superintendent. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, playing bingo, reading, and watching old-time movies.
Doreen was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one daughter Debbie. She is survived by two daughters; Susan Pechan and Jeanette Pechan, both of Yankton, SD; Grandchildren: Jess and Sarah Tramp of Mission Hill, SD, Clay and Rachel Stoddard of Yankton, SD, and Rebecca Tramp of Yankton, SD; Great Grandchildren; Riley, Kaydence, Kenzy, Reese, Remi, Jacob, Gabrielle, and Jocelyn.
