Dennis Oswald, age 64 of Yankton passed away on Monday, March 10, 2014 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, March 14, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton with Rev. John Rutten officiating. Entombment will be in the Chapel Mausoleum in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitations will begin at 5 PM, Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton with a 7 PM Scripture service. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Duane Frick, Dave Budig, David Oswald, Drew Oswald, John Van Treeck and Travis Van Treeck.
Dennis was born to Donald and Joan (Becker) Oswald, Sr. on August 17, 1949 in Yankton, SD. He grew up in Yankton, attended public school and graduated from Yankton High School in 1967. He started delivering papers for the Minneapolis Star and Tribune while in middle school and was later promoted to local circulation director while still in high school. As a senior in high school, he worked at his father's grocery store delivering groceries and later became the store's butcher where he worked for about 10 years. He married Donna Anderson in 1979 and they divorced in 2006. More recently he has worked at SAPA for the past 25 plus years, retiring in 2013 to take care of his father. Dennis had a great sense of humor. He loved hunting as a hobby and took his grandfather with him almost every weekend. He was well known for helping his parents over the years and took care of their every need. Dennis was a very large man with a very large heart.
Dennis is survived by his father, Donald Oswald, Sr. of Yankton, SD; brother, Donald (Jennifer) Oswald, Jr. of Papillion, NE; 2 sisters, Debra Johnson of Newport Beach, CA and Cheryl (John) Van Treeck of Littleton, CO; and 3 nieces and 7 nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Oswald.
