Marvin Leo "Marv" Steffes, age 77, of Yankton, SD passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, SD. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton, with Rev. Paul M. Opsahl officiating. The South Dakota Army National Guard Honor Guard will provide the US Flag folding and formal presentation. Burial of his cremated remains will take place at a later date. Visitations will be from 5 to 7 PM, Friday evening at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, and then one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Marvin was born on October 15, 1936 in St. Paul, MN to Larry J. and Marcella (Beckman) Steffes. Marvin married Dawn Holdorf in Reno, NV on January 19, 1991.
Marvin was a compassionate, caring, soft-spoken man who loved family, friends, our community, and golf. He was employed at American State Bank and First Dakota National Bank as a commercial lender for 40 Years in Yankton. He took great pride in helping many local businesses get their start. He received the Diploma of Graduation (University of Colorado School of Banking), Diploma of Graduation (University of Oklahoma National Commercial Lending Graduate School), and Certified Commercial Lender (Commercial Lending Division of the American Bankers Association). Marvin proudly served in the United States Army, with active duty in Korea.
He was a long-time member of Hillcrest Golf & Country Club, the Yankton Area Chamber of Commerce, the Elks Club, and the Sertoma Club, where he was treasurer for most of his membership.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn of Yankton SD;, son, Karl (Susan) Steffes of Austin, TX; stepson, Nathan Larson of Osmond NE; daughter, Karen Keenan of Gilbert, AZ; stepdaughter, Brooke Larson of Lincoln; NE; six grandchildren; brothers, Darrel (Pat) Steffes of Granville, IA and Emmet (Shirley) Steffes of Omaha, NE; sisters, Joan Kaster of Green Bay, WI and Carol Humes of Davenport, IA; and sister-in-law, Patt Steffes of Lincoln, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jim Steffes, two brothers-in-law, John Kaster and John Humes.
