Dennis John Quinlivan, age 85 of Yankton, SD formerly of Edina, MN passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Friday, June 13, 2014. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, June 23, 2014 at The Church of St. Patrick in Edina, MN. Burial will be at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Visitations will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until the time of the Mass at the church. The Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory are in charge of the arrangements.
Dennis was born to Ray and Elizabeth (Ryan) Quinlivan in St. Cloud, MN on August 15, 1928. Dennis attended elementary school at St. Cloud and graduated from Cathedral High School at St. Cloud. In 1946, Dennis joined the United States Navy proudly serving before being discharged in 1948. He then attended St. John's University and the University of Minnesota. On June 21, 1952, he married Bernadette (Bernie) Kennedy in Minneapolis, MN.
He worked for 36 years at Motor's Insurance Corporation, which is a unit of General Motors, as an insurance adjustor, retiring in 1988. He also volunteered at the Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN for many years.
Those who will cherish his memory are: son, Ray (Kathy) Quinlivan of Yankton, SD; three daughters, Jean Quinlivan of Eden Prairie, MN; Mary Quinlivan of Eden Prairie, MN; and Cathy Quinlivan of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren, Erin (Jesse) Reisz of Yankton, SD and Michael (Jessica) Quinlivan, Sioux Falls, SD; great-granddaughter, Ada Rose Reisz and great-grandson, Danver Ray Reisz.
Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadette, his parents, and brothers: Richard, Robert, Roger, and John and his sister, Mary.
Memorials are to be directed to Cathedral High School in St. Cloud, MN or donor's choice.
