Hilda Margaret Lane, age 100 1/2, of Yankton, SD passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton. A Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, June 23, 2014 at Majestic Bluffs Gathering Place in Yankton with Rev. John Rutten officiating. Visitations will begin at 9:30 AM on Monday and continue until the time of the Mass at the Gathering Place. A private family burial will take place. The Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton are in charge of the arrangements.
Hilda was born October 22, 1913 in Crofton, (Aten) NE to Henry and Gertrude (Hellmann) Nohr and grew up on a farm in Aten, NE. She attended grade school in Aten, NE and graduated from Yankton High School in 1931. After graduation, Hilda lived and worked in Sunnyvale, CA and returned to Yankton in 1940. She married Patrick Lane on January 25, 1940 in Yankton, SD and to this union two children were born, daughter, Patricia and son, Terry. Patrick passed away in 1975. Hilda resided in Yankton for 76 years. She was employed by Gurney Seed and Nursery from 1950 to 1970 and Yankton Clinic in medical records from 1970 to 1985. She enjoyed flowers, bowling, all sports, especially the Minnesota Twins, and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Senior Citizens Center. She had a great sense of humor, sassy wit and above all she was proud and honest.
Hilda is survived by her daughter, Patricia Brooks (Marc Rhoades) of St. Paul, MN; son, Terry (JoAnn) Lane of Sioux City, IA; grandchildren: Daniel Brooks (Marne), Kelly Brooks Paradise (Marc) and Steven Lane (Angie); great-grandchildren: Grace and Lucia Brooks, Olivia, Tommy and Joe Paradise, and Ellie and Maggie Lane; and sister, Maymie Gilson of Las Vegas, NV, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick ; her parents; siblings: Harry, Vern, Merle, Dan, Floyd, and Marvin Nohr, Ilene White and Cleone Schwartz, granddaughter, Nikki Lane Irgens, and son-in-law, Herb Brooks.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Avera Sister James Care Center, 2111 West 11th Street, Yankton, SD 57078.
