Obituary of Agnes M. Nooney

Agnes M. Nooney, age 99, of Yankton, SD passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the Sanford Vermillion Care Center, Vermillion, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Monday, January 19, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton with Rev. Robert Wullweber officiating. Burial will be approximately 1:00 PM at St. Columba Catholic Cemetery in Mayfield. Visitations will begin at 6 PM, Sunday January 18, 2015 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton with a 7 PM rosary followed by a 7:30 PM Scripture service. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be her nephews: John Nooney, Jeff Nooney, Jay Nooney, Joel Nooney, Lawrence Nooney, and Joe Bruyer.
Agnes was born on November 14, 1915 to John Patrick and Catherine Loretta (Slowey) Nooney near Mayfield, SD. She attended Whittier country School in rural Irene and remained on the family farm with her parents. They then moved to Scotland, SD and farmed for the next seven years. While residing in the Scotland area, Agnes became a member of the VFW Auxiliary. After the passing of her father, Agnes, her mother Catherine, and brother James moved to Lanark, IL for a short time helping out on her brother-in-law's cattle feedlot. They moved back to Yankton where she began her employment with Cimpl Meats working for over 20 years in the kitchen stuffing sausages. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar Society in Yankton. She enjoyed baking, cooking, crocheting many afghans, and especially loved her flower garden.
Her memory will always be cherished by her sister, Catherine Bruyer of Vermillion, SD and numerous nieces and nephews.
Those who preceded Agnes in death are her parents, John and Catherine, two brothers and their wives, William and Irene Nooney and James and Eleanor Nooney, two sisters and their husbands, Mary and Richard Peterson and Theresa and Robert Brennan, and her brother-in-law, George Bruyer.
