Alice Loraine (Stevens) Lynch, age 86 of Yankton passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Avera Yankton Care Center, Yankton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton with Rev. Robert Wullweber officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-7 PM, Monday, February 2, 2015 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton with a 7 PM rosary followed by a 7:30 PM Scripture service. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Alice was born July 24, 1928 in Hartington, NE to Louis and Elizabeth (Lammers) Stevens and was raised on the farm in Bow Valley, NE. She graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Hartington, NE, she then went on to teach school for three years in rural areas near Bow Valley. She was united in marriage to Willard "Bill" Lynch on July 23, 1951 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton and to this union five sons were born: Daniel, Robert, Patrick, Thomas and Michael. They moved to Torrance, CA from 1956-1960 before returning back to Yankton. Alice was known as a great scratch cook making many bread and cakes which she decorated for Red Owl Grocery. She worked at Rexall Drug for 1 year, Keating Creamery as a bookkeeper for 1 and a half years, and then Vanderhule Moving and Storage for 8 years. Alice also worked for the City of Yankton as a clerk in the Finance Office and other various city offices for several years.
She was very talented with knitting, needle point, and crocheting. Through the years, Alice did home daycare for many of Yankton's children. Alice was an enthusiastic bowler and had a great dance partner for 63 years, her husband, Bill, whom she met at the Majestic in Yankton, SD. She was an avid sports fan of Yankton sports who attended all events of each of her five sons.
Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Bill; five sons: Daniel (Liz), Robert (Kristi), Patrick, Thomas and Michael; grandchildren: Benjamin Lynch, Allison (Zeb) Pent, Sean (Danielle), Ryan Lynch and Jonna (Derek) Kogelenberg and great grandsons: Jude and Elliot Pent.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Elizabeth (Lammers) Stevens, her sister, Ann Louise Perk and brother, Robert Stevens.
