Evelyn Zeeb, age 84 of Menno, SD passed away Sunday, February 1, 2015 at the Freeman Community Hospital, Freeman, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Friday, February 6, 2015 at Peace Christian Reformed Church, Menno, SD with Rev. Steve Moerman officiating. Burial will be in the Menno Cemetery, Menno, SD. Visitations will be from 5 to 8 PM, Thursday, at the Aisenbrey-Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel, Menno, and then one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Nathan Zeeb, Jim Zeeb, Randy Deters, Troy Barkmeier, Andrew Toczek, and Wayne Schuller.
Evelyn Valine Zeeb was born to Eugene and Orina (Mettler) Handel on December 9, 1930 at Menno, SD. She was baptized at Ebenezer Reformed Church and later confirmed there. She attended school at Menno until 1946 when she moved to Shafter, CA with her family. She graduated from Shafter High School in 1948 and on September 25, 1949 married the love of her life Harold Zeeb. They farmed in the Shafter area until 1952 when they moved back to Menno. They lived and farmed southwest of Menno until 1999 when they moved to town. Evelyn and Harold were among the founding members of Peace Christian Reformed Church. Music and church were an important part of her life. She played the organ and sang in choir and small groups and served as an accompanist. The last years of her life were spent in the Menno-Olivet Care Center, Menno, SD.
Her main vocation was caring for her family and farming with her husband. She was an excellent seamstress. After her children were grown she worked in various businesses, most involving sewing.
Surviving Evelyn are her children: Marty Toczek, LeRoy Zeeb, and Paul Zeeb; grandchildren Gretchen (Wayne) Schuller, Andrew (Heidi) Toczek, Rebecca (Troy) Barkmeier, Nathan (Katie) Zeeb and nine great grandchildren. Sisters Vivian (Robert) Baze, Diane (Ron) Hlinka and brother Lawrence (Kathy) Handel. Sister-in-law Erna (Ray) Zeeb and Irene (Pete) Zeeb and many nieces and nephews.
