Allan Gene. Sathe, age 80 of Yankton passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015 at his home surrounded by family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 14, 2015 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Yankton, SD, with Rev. Ken Lulf officiating. After the services, burial of his cremated remains will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton, SD at a later date. Private family military graveside rites by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post #791, Honor Guard and the SDARNGHG of Sioux Falls, SD. Visitations will begin at 4:00 PM, Friday, March 13, 2015 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, with a Scripture service at 7:00 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Allan was born September 7, 1934 in Yankton, SD to Oscar and Elva (Nedeau) Sathe. He finished the 8th grade and then worked on the family farm. He entered the service on November 9, 1953 and received an Honorable Discharge on November 8, 1956. After the service, he worked for a pool hall, Snyder Furniture and Johnson Bakery. Allan married Mary Portaleos on June 4, 1956 and to this union 3 children were born. Allan was employed with the Yankton County Highway Department from 1961 and retired in 2003. After retiring, he started working for the State Parks Maintenance Department until 2004 when his illness required him to give up his passion for work and helping others.
Allan enjoyed playing horseshoes, pool, cards (31 Scat), cribbage and watching his grandchildren's activities. He was always there to lend a helping hand, loved being outside and bowling with his wife. He was a jack of all trades. Almost anytime he could be seen cheering on the Yankton Bucks and Gazelles. He will be missed by many.
Allan is survived by his wife, Mary of Yankton, SD; sons: Jeff (Elaine) Sathe of Milwaukee, WI, Jack Sathe of Boise, ID and Jay (Wendi) Sathe of Yankton, SD; 9 grandchildren; brothers: Ron (Mary Ann) Sathe of Youngsville, TN, Rodger (Eleanor) Sathe of Auburn, PA and Joe Sathe of Volin, SD and sister, Bev (Don) Freng of Aurora, CO.
Allan was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Lorraine Hoopes and Joan Sergott.
