Obituary of Gordon Lee Myears

Gordon Lee Myears, age 80 years and one week of Lake Andes, SD passed away early Friday, January 15, 2016 at the Lakes Andes Senior Living from complications of dementia. His wishes were to be cremated with no formal services. Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton is assisting with the arrangements. Gordon was born on January 7, 1936 at the farm home in Charles Mix County to August and Bertha (Stotz) Myears. He attended country school through the 8th grade. He worked on the dams at Pickstown, Fort Pierre and Yankton. On May 28, 1955, he married Shirley McCormick and four children were born to this union: Kathleen, Ernest, Mark, and Duane. On August 3, 1975, Gordon married Marlene Beck in Yankton, SD. They farmed and worked for various farmers, owned and operated a custom stackmoving and baling business. He loved helping others, gardening, hunting and fishing. Gordon is survived by his wife, Marlene of Lake Andes, SD; his children: Kathleen Young of Fort Pierre, SD, Ernest (Tracy) Myears of Lake Andes, SD, Mark (Denise) Myears of Flandreau, SD, and Duane (Laurie) Myears of Remsen, IA; 9 grandchildren: Michelle, Brandon, Sherry, Brittany, Sydney, Bridget, Dawson, Colin, and Brielle; 4 great-grandchildren: Owen, Ava, Averie, and Ke'Ziah; his brothers and sisters: Lloyd (Jean) Myears of Green Ridge, MO, Norman Myears of Brainerd, MN, Dorothy (Harold) Wentland of Hibbing, MN, Don (Mary Ann) Myears of Mulvane, KS, and Patricia (Terry) Lechner of West Bend, WI, and numerous nieces and nephews. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, his son-in-law, Dave Young, sister-in-law, Arleen Myears, and grandson, Corbin.
