Beverly was born September 22, 1934, to Jennie I. (Culver) and Ralph M. Pike, Sr, in Sioux City, Iowa joining her five older siblings. The family moved to Yankton, SD in 1941 where Bev completed her schooling from 2nd through 12th grade and graduated from Yankton High School class of 1952. Bev was baptized earlier that year at First United Methodist Church in Yankton where her parents were members.
Bev met her husband to be, Richard “Dick” V. Lowe, the spring of 1952 while working at the Yankton Movie Theater. They married December 7, 1952, at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Volin. She was also confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Trondhjem Lutheran Church where Dick had been baptized, confirmed and attended.
During the time Dick was in the service in Korea, Bev temporarily moved to Lakewood, CA near some of her siblings. She worked as a blueprint clerk at Douglas Aircraft Company. She was an active choir member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Lakewood and directed the Carol Choir of boys and girls. Bev returned to Yankton in April 1954 to prepare for Dick’s return from service.
Bev and Dick moved back to California in May 1955. To this union four children were born. In the following years she was a Girl Scout leader and Girl Scout Neighborhood Chairman. She was active in PTA, the Homeowners Association, and took college courses.
Late 1977, after their children graduated and moved out, Bev and Dick moved to Big Bear Lake in the southern California mountains. They transferred membership to Shepherd In The Pines Lutheran Church where she served eight years as pastor secretary. She also served as Lutheran Women’s Missionary League president and choir director there for several years.
After Dick’s retirement in 1988, Bev and Dick moved back home to rural Volin, SD. They bought a 40-acre farm from family and rejoined the Trondhjem Lutheran Church where they were both active. Bev was church treasurer and ELCA President for several years. Both were involved in the Yankton Chapter of Sons of Norway Lillehammer Lodge.
Bev moved into Yankton two years after Dick’s death in 2001, then into Walnut Village (previously Yankton High School). She enjoyed family genealogy, journaling, reading, doing puzzles, and loved singing with family and friends as well as solos at church. She also enjoyed meeting with classmates once a month for coffee and getting together weekly with her “Friday Night Gals.”
Early 2022 Bev moved out to Castle Rock, CO closer to her oldest daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter’s family.
Bev is survived by her four children and their spouses: Leslie (Steve) Lykins of Castle Rock, CO, Jeff (Charlene) Lowe of Faribault, MN, Cathy (Richard) Dickinson of Abilene, TX, and Susan Lowe Wilson of Yankton, SD; Grandchildren Christopher, Tammy, Krista, Leah, Dane; seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law Bea Pike of Rio Rancho, NM and Adeline Lowe in Sioux Falls, SD, brother-in-law Raymond (Dee) Lowe of Golden, CO.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Lowe; parents Ralph and Jennie Pike; sister Juanita (Maynard) Anderson; brothers Ralph “Bud”, Pat (Betty), Doug (Sue), Jerry (Clara) Pike; grandson Brian Lykins; brothers-in-law Bennett Lowe, Elmer Lowe, and Alden Lowe; sisters-in-law Evelyn Lowe and Eunice Lowe; nieces Vicki Pike- Frye, Deborah Lowe Stricker, and nephews Ralph “Mike” Pike, Patrick Pike, Gene Pike, Michael Lowe, and James “Jimmy” Lowe.
The family would like to thank the staff at Castle Rock Assisted Living and Brighton Hospice for their kindness and care of Bev in her final days.
