Evelyn Cimpl age 97, of Yankton, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at the Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am, Saturday, April 20, 2024 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Yankton with Fr. Thi Pham officiating. Visitation will be Friday, April 19, 2024 at Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, SD from 5:00-7:00 pm with a 7:00 pm wake service. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Yankton. Evelyn J Cimpl, the daughter of Bill and Clara (Humpal) Hajek was born on October 28th, 1926 in Tyndall, SD. Evelyn attended grade school and high school in Tyndall, SD. Following high school, Evelyn moved to Yankton where she lived in an apartment and worked as a secretary at Gurney’s Seed and Nursery for 20 years. While in Yankton she met Wes Cimpl. They were united in marriage on October 15th, 1953 in Tyndall, SD. To this union was born one daughter. They purchased a house in Yankton in 1955 where they resided for more than 60 years. Evelyn continued to work in Yankton in a dental office as a receptionist until her retirement. Evelyn was an active member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters and a lifetime member of the VFW.
Thankful for sharing her life are her daughter Melissa and her husband Kevin Kolda, her grandchildren, Madison and Mason Kolda, her sister-in-law Mary Hajek, other relatives and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Clara, her husband Wes, sister Maybell and brother Howard.
