Obituary of Faye Wangstrom
WANGSTROM FAYE
Faye M. Wangstrom passed away peacefully on December 15, 2023, at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton, SD. Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Thursday, December 28th at Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory in Yankton with Pastor Steve Weispfennig of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Yankton, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Osmond, NE at approximately 1:30 pm. Faye, daughter of Willie and Christina (Kube) Gansebom, was born at the family farm south of Osmond on December 5, 1929. She was a baptized and confirmed member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Osmond. Faye attended country school, Immanuel Lutheran School, and Osmond High School, graduating with the class of 1947. She attended Wayne State College, NE for a teaching certificate. She taught in 1 room rural schools which involved walking to school in blizzards, driving on non-maintained deep muddy roads, firing up the pot belly stove and teaching several levels of children/teens learning status and so much more.
On June 19, 1949, she was married to Don Wangstrom at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Osmond. She was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Osmond and St. John’s Lutheran Church, Yankton. She served in Ladies Aide, Ruth Circle and much more. Faye was engaged in all family duties, farming, and involvement with the Osmond/Wausa communities. They since resided in Yankton due to Don’s poor health but with a devoted marriage of 44 years. She was a caregiver and a hard worker but always had time for family and friends.
Survivors include daughter, Deonne (James) Taylor of Rapid City, SD; son, Dr. Neil (April) Wangstrom of LaPorte, IN; 3 grandchildren, Emma Wangstrom of Grand Rapids, MI, Kenzie Wangstrom and Macie Wangstrom of LaPorte, IN; one sister-in-law, Clarice Gansebom of Osmond, NE; longtime friends, Deb and Ron Kachena, Ronda, Gabbie and numerous other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don of 44 years; one brother, Everett, and wife Helen; one sister, Edith, and husband Al Geisler; one brother, Marlin; sister-in-law Alaire and husband Melvin.
There are no goodbyes for us...you will always be in our hearts and memories.
