My cousins, the Janes, lived across the alley from Paul so knew the family from a young age, and I graduated with his brother Joe from high school. I saw Paul very often when I has at Northern as he was finding his way through his young life, and then a couple of years later, when I was at SDSU, he emerged as a Pharm student, with his path forward then more clearly defined. Thirty-five years later, during a visit to Sioux Falls to see my family, I ran into him in a Hy-Vee supermarket and still with that magnificent head of hair he had, he told me that he was a pharmacist in the area. We had a great visit and we wished each other well. He was a gentle and thoughtful soul, imbued, like all his siblings, with a great intellect and an inquisitive nature. I never met a nicer fellow than Paul. My condolences to Joe and the rest of his family for their loss.

First, I would like to offer my condolences to you Linda, Zack, Brian, and to rest of family, and friends that knew Paul
Paul I am glad to say, has always been a friend, to me, from the moment we met in Pharmacy School, became brothers in Kappa Psi fraternity, and graduated, and went to the same areas for our first jobs.
After graduating from Pharmacy School, Paul and I both decided to head south for our first jobs, and settled in Texas. After working down there in Texas for a couple of years or so, we both decided to head back up to South Dakota. This was the start of an amazing sharing of jobs, and work sites for both of us.
We both ended up starting work at Randalls in Sioux Falls, and worked together for about 7-8 years before Paul decided to move on. Next encounter with work was when we both worked for the same place at Choice Pharmacy, in Vermillion. (although at different times). and I believe our last sharing of a Pharmacy was when at different times, we both worked for Kmart in Yankton. So it seems we were destined to share the same work sites throughout our careers.
I am so grateful that I got to know you Paul, Linda and Family in my time in school, and Sioux Falls. It would been a loss to me to have not known such a great individual, that always had a smile on his face, and always some of the best tales, of hunting, fishing, or just plain life in general. If you needed someone to help with something, or to show you the ropes in fishing, or hunting, he was the one to go to.
The world was a better place with you in it Paul, and I will sincerely miss you not being here to share it with us all. RIP, and keep on fishing.

Dear Linda, Zack, Brian and Family,
I was so saddened to hear of Paul's passing. He was a good friend and was always fun to engage in conversation. I will especially remember one time when he invited me along to the Missouri River to fish. Paul was in his element when fishing or hunting. He was a true sportsman .He was a good family man who worked hard to provide for your family. I was glad that I was in Brookings for our Hobo Day Reunion 2 years ago and had a chance to see Paul. It is important to remember the good times and the laughter that Paul brought to his friends. I am thankful that I had the chance to call him friend. I am sending prayers for you at this time to strengthen and uphold you during this difficult time.

I was glad that we got together for that impromptu reunion. It was good to have many old friends together. We lost Harold and Mavis Neubegrers' this last year and they rounded out the group. Harold didn't let much get past him and enjoyed teasing Paul while hunting and fishing. We played lot's of practical jokes on each other. Great fun was had and it helped relieve the stress of school.

I send my sincere Condolences to all of Paul's family. We had been praying and hoping for Paul's recovery. Paul's life took an unexpected turn and God called him home. His greatest success was his loving family but he had a brilliant mind. He loved the great outdoors and Canada was his dream spot. I hope his dreams are a thousand fold in heaven and he catches only the biggest fish. I am deeply saddened that his life ended at age 66. My two Sons adored their Uncle Paul and enjoyed family game nights with him and Aunt Linda. I am grateful he has Two Awesome Sons to live on and keep the Van DeRostyne family legacy and they can send it forth to the next generations. May the Peace of God's love be with you during this most trying time of grief and loss.

Spending time with Paul was always time well spent. Whether it was time outdoors hunting or time indoors listening to one of Paul's great stories, it was always something so many looked forward to. Paul touched the lives of so many more people than he probably realized. Paul was special in so many ways and the world was always a better place with him around. Paul did so many things for so many people, but Paul's greatest contribution was that he was an outstanding friend -- a friend that will be greatly missed.

Many happy memories of Pauly! I wish for God to protect him with his light and to bring him into his kingdom.
To share a campfire,
To share a canoe
To fish like you never have before
To argue a bit
To laugh together at ourselves
All of this made the time with Pauly so wonderful.

I only met Paul once when I was fishing the same spot with Zack and Paul. From my frequent conversations with Zack I know Paul to have been a lover of all things outdoors. We were definitely kindred spirits that way. I too recently lost a loved a one and I know how difficult this can be. Please know your family will be in my prayers. I'm terribly sorry for your loss.
