I loved Lucy like my own mom! I always loved being at Lucy's home when I was growing up... playing with my best friend, Julie, and her siblings, Lynn, Tracy and Donna! My favorite childhood memories are of those days spent at my second home! My mom and Lucy were the best of friends and did so many things together. And us kids were mostly in tow. Summer was the best.... we always went to the beach and stayed for hours. Our moms sun tanning, drinking Schlitz beer and laughing. They enjoyed their time together and so did us kids! They gardened every year and canned what they grew. Of course us kids tried to get out of helping! I remember Lucy making wine and maybe we snuck a drink or two. I loved it when Sandra would stop by and us kids liked hanging with her because she was cool! I looked up to Dawn... I thought she was so pretty and was that older sister who dressed up, wore makeup and fixed her hair when she went out. Lance was a busy guy but would take the time to pick on us once in a while! Donna was our protector and always tried to keep us younger ones out of trouble. Me, Julie, Lynn and Tracy loved playing in Lucy's split level house. It was a GREAT house to play hide and seek or put on our famous skits!!! Lucy and my mom put up with us wild and crazy kids...but we used our imagination when we played and we spent a lot of times playing outside. Our moms didn't have a lot of money, they worked hard and their friendships was what they treasured! Even when life took us all in different direction, Lucy was there for us kids when my mom died tragically. My sister, Kathy and I keep in touch with Lucy here and there.... life got too busy. But when I would see Lucy, it was like we would pick up from when we saw each other last. I thank her for being my second mom.... for looking out for me and for being a good friend to my mom all those years! Rest well dear Lucy!!! We love you!

It has been a couple of years since I was able to visit with Lucy. She always knew who I was before I walked through the door to say hi.
She said I have moms walk and she would never forget that walk.
She was moms best friend before mom passed away in 1985.
I remember so many times when they spent time together. Laughing together. Both of them were stinkers. I'm sure they will find each other in heaven.
She seemed to be the last person who I could connect mom with. I will miss her dearly.
I'm sorry I am so far away and can't get back.
I am thinking of all you kids and your families.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Donna, I'm so sorry that your Mom is gone. I only met her a few times when we were in high school, but I remember Dawn writing pages of Lucy Holdorfs for you and Lance and Lynn to use for school excuses. (Probably safe to give away that secret now.) I'm sure you have good memories of good times with your Mom, and that is what will keep her alive for you. Take care, my friend.

I was sorry to read of Lucy's passing. She was one of my favorite teachers at Branch School (near Hartington) my 5th and 6th grade years. She suggested to my parents that I skip a grade that year, which I did. She also arranged for our school to go to Yankton to the circus, which was a highlight for all of us at that time (early 1950's)! I also remember her Plaster of Paris projects, where we formed birds, fish, etc. and painted them. I had them for many years afterward. That was her artistic talent! I also remember her sisters coming with her sometimes and Norma subbed for her, too. Her smile was contagious and all of her students adored her. I am sure she will be missed by many. May she rest in peace!

To Lucy's family. You have my Sincere Sympathy at the loss of your mother. Lucy was a very special person. When ever I saw her she would have something funny to say. I know she had a special place in my mom's heart. My mom was her Godmother and I think they had a special bond between each other. Now they are visiting once again. Please, God, wrap your comforting arms around each one of Lucy's children. Let them know that their mother is always with them. Keep all your memories of her especially all the fun times and speak of her often. God Bless you. Andie Sudbeck
