Donald VanderTuig, age 63 of rural Springfield, South Dakota, passed away on February 8, 2018 at his home under hospice care. Memorial graveside services will be 3:30 PM, Monday, February 12, 2018 at the Mission Hill Cemetery, Mission Hill, SD with Rev. Paige Besse-Rankin officiating. Visitations will be 1 to 3 PM, Monday, February 12, 2018 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory in Yankton. Urn Bearers are: Brad and Jo, Dave and Pam, and Steve and Brenda VanderTuig. Honorary Urn Bearers are: Butch Olseth, Dixie Rogness, Dave Siegenthaler, Rob Gould, Cheryl Gould, Randy Johnson, Sheila Shutt, Bruce Waage, Nancy Thompson and Jill Gillilan.
Don was born March 27, 1954 in Fort Bragg, NC to Kenneth and Faith (Koele) VanderTuig and grew up in Sioux Falls. He graduated from high school in 1972 and attended college in Wyoming and Montana. Don married Carrie Heimbach and to this union, a beautiful daughter, Lindsay was born in 1984. He moved back to South Dakota where he met the love of his life, Pam Hamburg. They were married on October 6, 2012 in Springfield, SD.
Don loved raising his horses and cared about every animal God made. He was a member of the Yankton Rodeo Association.
Don is survived by his wife, Pam VanderTuig of Springfield, SD; daughter, Lindsay (Tommie Lee) Asay of Belgrade, MT; grandchild, Jordan; brothers: David (Pam) VanderTuig of Yankton, SD, Brad (Jo) VanderTuig of Walcott, IA and Steve (Brenda) VanderTuig of Omaha, NE and many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, stepdaughter, Shantell and many aunts and uncles.
Don made his life around his home, wife, daughter and granddaughter and the wonderful friends he called family.
