Miss Lehrkamp was my teacher in 1970-71. We had just moved to Yankton so my dad could be manager at JC Penney. I was at Stewart grades 1-3 but Miss Lehrkamp is the only teacher I remember from that school. She was wonderful.
As an adult I realize how important and pivotal teachers are in our lives. It is truly a calling. A blessed vocation. What a lifelong impact a teacher can make.
At 53, not blessed with children, I too understand the fulfillment of caring for others children. When people ask about our kids I reply" we weren't blessed with children of our own but have 16 ( friends children) we are able to enjoy". Ok it doesn't come near Miss L's 800+ But I understand the pure joy and fulfillment that comes through serving others.
Thank you for supporting her for all these years in the pursuit of her vocation. In doing so, you also made a difference in all those little lives.

In November, 1974 I moved to Yankton. I was 6 years old. I remember being so nervous about going to a new school. So unsure. But I walked into the loving classroom of Mrs. Ensenbach. So grateful she was the teacher to help me with that transition and to make sure I got off to a good start in my new school. Surely she lived out her calling her on earth. Praying that her family is now remembering her sweet spirit and all the lives she impacted over the years.

I was sad to read about Pat's passing. I did my student teaching with her in 1972. I enjoyed her and being in the classroom with her. I retired from teaching in the Vermillion School District in 2010. I mostly worked with kindergarten and 1st grade. I was also a Reading Recovery Teacher. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
