Bonnie was born March 13, 1927, in Platte, South Dakota, the daughter of Alonzo and Olive Hartzer, with her sister, Donna Leah. She was first married to Laverne Stulken in 1945 then to Charles Strnad in 1947.
Life as a farm wife was never easy, and she was certainly a tireless and humble woman. She made lifelong friends and had many stories to share over a cup or two of coffee, especially with best friend Bonny Warnke. Her kitchen wizardry was remarkable whether preparing pheasant, bullheads, venison, or canning, baking, and everything in between. Her green thumb was evident with verdant flower beds and vegetable garden. As a prolific quilter, she stitched countless creations for friends and family. She ran the Stickney Legion Cafe for a bit and had bushels of stories about this. She will be remembered for her infectious laughter, quick smile, jigsaw puzzle acumen, and lucky bingo cards.
She is preceded in death by her husband Charles, her sister Donna Leah, her son William, and son-in-law Russ.
Surviving her are children Sherry Hall (Russ) and Roberta Strnad (Chris Herrick); grandchildren Shawn Hall (Stacey), Dawn Fitzgibbons-Bradley (Day), Derek Ottenwess, Jered Ottenwess; great-grandchildren include Nicholas, Casey (Elle), Madison, Robert, Spencer, Samantha, Elijah, Grace, Vivian; great-great-grandchildren Lily and Cooper; nephew Jim Bernard and niece Angela Hotz; Dr. William Fitzgibbons and Bonny Warnke.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to The Salvation Army.
